My entire Navy career from E-1 to O-4
COMMENTS: My father, AO1C Leonard H. Rohren, was a squadron member and
was with VP-22 on Ford Island during the Japanese attach. He
remained with the VP-22 as the unit was reassigned to Darwin.
On 15 January 1942, he was wounded during a Zero attack while a crew
member of 22-P-7. They were just about to land the PBY when the
Zeros' made multiple straifing runs. Lt Donaho was the pilot that
day and was able to beach the damaged, on fire aircraft. The
incident is mentioned in the book “In the Hands of Fate, a Story of
PATWING TEN.”
Dad passed away on 3 Jun 1983. He remained a sailor to his death.
I came upon this website while doing research for a Purple Heart Medal
that was never awarded to him. I would appreceiate hearing from you if
you have access to any information which might help document the incident or
his wounds in support of a medal request. His official service record
and medical record make no mention of him being wounded.
